What is the HotRox Wildland Valve?

Wait…Wait…everybody likes to know the cost first so let’s do it. Yes, it’s pretty. Yes, it’s different looking. Yes, it looks expensive. Would it surprise you to know that the HotRox Valve is likely available at the same cost you would pay for a standard cast iron inline tee? Okay, now that we got that out of the way, enjoy our site. If you’ve ever had to install a hoselay using hose clamps or wyes, we think you’ll be impressed.

If you do nothing else on our site, watch this video of the HotRox Valve in action in a hoselay race! See the results for yourself.

Quick Description

The HotRox Valve is a very simple patented design created by Firefighters that features an in-line 1 1/2” ball valve with an integrated 1” lateral. The valve is designed to incorporate into any Wildland Hosepack using 1 1/2” hose as the main firefighting line or as the trunk line. Design profile allows the HotRox to take the place of any in-line tee or gated wye with enhanced dual purpose functionality.

What It Does

Makes firefighters faster and safer. By allowing one Firefighter to shut down the hoselay with a simple 1/4 turn operation, we no longer have to go through the process of using a separate firefighter to clamp the hose when we need to add the next section. This allows firefighters to install the hoselay faster and with fewer personnel. The HotRox Valve also remains in the hoselay for easy shut-off and replacement of damaged hose.

Why It Works - Inside the Numbers

  • Uses fewer firefighters to accomplish the same tactic - faster. Free up additional crewmembers to catch spot fires, scout ahead, or enhance situational awareness.

  • Saves an average of 30-60 seconds with hose transitions - Install a 1,000 foot hoselay 2-4 minutes faster using the same amount of personnel during initial attack.

  • Compact design integrates easily into any hosepack style or configuration. Significantly smaller than gated wyes and hose clamps.

In 2019 alone, multiple fatality reviews and firefighter injury reports included hoselays as a key factor on the incident.

The HotRox valve was created from a recognized need. Our communities deserve the very best firefighting capabilities we can provide to them. Our firefighters should be able to do their job as safely and as quickly as possible. It is our mission to continually improve the means by which we can better accomplish this effort.

The Benefits

  • Quicker hose to hose transitions for hoselay

  • Eliminates the need for a second Firefighter to clamp the hose line

  • Firefighters advance the hoselay along the fire FASTER

  • Integrated shut-offs remain in the hoselay if needed
